P&O Ferries has encouraged travellers planning a trip to Holland this year to tour Amsterdam via the city's canals.
The company pointed out that the Dutch capital can be "bustling and hectic" despite being relatively small.
Trips along the city's famous waterways therefore provide an opportunity to escape from the crowds and see the sights "from a different level", writes Tomas Mowlam in his blog for
P&O Ferries.
People planning to visit Holland this year can travel on the company's Hull to Rotterdam ferry route.
Mr Mowlam revealed that canal tours follow three main routes, which are set up to offer customers the chance to stop off at Amsterdam's leading attractions.
Passengers can visit sites including the Rijksmuseum, Leidseplein and the Anne Frank House during the trips, which also provide an insight into the city's history and culture.
Arguably the most famous canals in the capital are the Herengracht, Keizergracht and Prinsengracht.
The concentric waterways were constructed in the 17th century and today provide access to several popular tourist areas and attractions.
Travellers also have the option of taking ferries to Amsterdam from Newcastle with
DFDS Seaways, while
Stena Line offers a Harwich to Hook of Holland ferry service.
