Travellers planning to catch ferries to Spain for their summer holiday have been advised to pay a visit to the city of Pamplona in the Navarra region.
The destination boasts a wealth of stunning scenery, from mountains and verdant hills to winding rivers and broad valleys, according to P&O Ferries.
Writing in his blog for the company, which offers
ferries from Portsmouth to Bilbao on the north coast of Spain, John Hillman explains that the medieval city is already well-known as a result of Ernest Hemingway's writings on the San Fermin festival.
Also known as the Running of the Bulls, this event takes place in one of the first weeks in July and sees crowds of tourists and locals running through the streets of Pamplona pursued by six angry bulls.
While the festival certainly offers a unique and memorable experience, travellers looking for something more relaxing can visit Pamplona at other times of the year to enjoy its peaceful atmosphere and see sights such as the ancient city cathedral.
P&O Ferries provides
ferries from Portsmouth to Bilbao departing from the south coast of England every three days.
Brittany Ferries offers an alternative with its ferries to Santander from Plymouth and Portsmouth.
