Travellers planning to visit Paris during a trip to France this year have been encouraged to see the city's urban beaches, which are opened every summer.
Writing in her blog for
P&O Ferries, Rosie Khdir points out that visiting the sandy banks along the river Seine is a good way of escaping from the busy and humid city centre.
The Paris-Plages tradition began in 2002 with a single beach on the Rive Droite and was expanded to include a second site on the Rive Gauche in 2006.
People interested in visiting the popular attractions can travel to France on the
Dover to Calais ferry route, which is served by
P&O Ferries and
SeaFrance.
Sand is laid along long stretches of the riverbank, as well as sun beds and volleyball nets to create an authentic beach holiday feel.
Visitors can also enjoy entertainment provided by comedians and cool off in mini pools.
The beaches will open on July 20th this year and continue to welcome visitors until August 20th.
LD Lines provides
ferries from Dover to Boulogne and Portsmouth to Le Havre for people planning a trip to France this year, while
Brittany Ferries sails to Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo from Portsmouth.
