Travellers based in the UK should ensure they make the most out of the summer weather by treating themselves to an overseas break, according to
P&O Ferries.
The company highlighted the ease with which people based in towns and cities in south-east England can reach the continent, with just a short train or car ride required to get to the coast.
"From there you can enjoy a bracing jaunt across the straits of Dover," wrote Rosie Khdir in her blog for the ferry operator.
"France - a country far more accustomed to heat and perfectly equipped to show you a fine time of it, is just a few miles and a few pounds away."
The company operates regular daily crossings on the
Dover to Calais ferry route, which is also served by
SeaFrance.
Ms Khdir highlighted some of the attractions that are within easy reach for cross channel ferry passengers, such as the Bagatelle amusement park near Berck sur Mer and Aqualud water park in Le Touquet.
People who decide to visit northern France this year also have the option of taking
ferries from Dover to Dunkerque with
Norfolkline, while
LD Lines offers
ferries from Portsmouth to Le Havre.
