To mark National Ferry Fortnight, P&O Ferries has unveiled a number of interesting facts about its operations.
National Ferry Fortnight is an initiative organised by the Passenger Shipping Association that will run from May 9th to 22nd and encourage British holidaymakers to consider the option of ferry travel.
People who decide to travel with P&O Ferries will have the opportunity to take their animal friends with them by using the company's Pet Passport service.
Nearly 600,000 pets are thought to have travelled under the scheme since it was introduced in February 2000.
P&O Ferries also revealed that its ferry crossings are used by conservationists working to reintroduce beavers to British shores, while the operator's Portsmouth to Bilbao ferry services regularly welcome scientists studying whales and dolphins.
The unusual sights that travellers will see inside the company's ferries include the face of Michael Caine on menus in the Langan's Brasserie restaurant, a chain that the actor co-founded.
P&O Ferries' flagship Dover to Calais ferry service is one of the most popular travel options for people visiting northern France, while those heading to Ireland can catch
ferries from Liverpool to Dublin.
