People who will be taking cross channel ferry trips to visit Paris this year can experience the museum that was reportedly the most popular cultural institution in the world last year.
In an annual ranking of the world's museums published by the Art Newspaper recently, the Louvre retained its place at the top of the list with some 8.5 million visitors in 2008.
London's British Museum moved from fourth to second position with 5.9 million visitors last year, while the city's Tate Modern also appeared in the top five after welcoming five million guests.
The top ten ranking featured two other cultural institutions that ferry travellers can visit in Paris - the Musee d'Art Moderne and the Musee d'Orsay - while the capital's Centre Pompidou achieved 12th place.
There are a variety of artistic and historic treasures for tourists to see in the Louvre, including Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece the Mona Lisa and a number of ancient Roman, Greek and Egyptian relics.
Travellers can catch cross channel
