Barfleur is set to return to service on the Poole to Cherbourg route this weekend and operator Brittany Ferries has said passenger numbers are looking good.
Speaking to the Bournemouth Echo, spokesman Chris Jones said he was "delighted" to see the ship back on the seas.
The vessel is set to leave Poole on Sunday February 27th for the first time in a year.
It will carry fewer passengers and more freight this time around in an effort to boost profitability on the Brittany Ferries
However, despite the reduction in passenger availability, Mr Jones insisted that the first crossing is in high demand.
Ron Parker from Poole Council said: "It's good news we have got the Barfleur back and we have got to make sure we keep it.
Jim Stewart, chief executive of Poole Harbour Commissioners, added: "Many UK ferry ports are currently seeing reductions in ferry activity. We are very pleased to see Poole bucking the trend."
