A new ferry terminal looks set to be built at Penzance Harbour which will allow passengers improved access to the Isles of Scilly.
Cornwall Council has confirmed that it has submitted a planning application to build a new hub on the town's South Pier, which would connect the town with the island archipelago, which is located 26 miles off the coast of Land's End.
A spokesman from Cornwall Council said: "The improvements form part of one of the two remaining options being considered for Penzance."
It is hoped that the proposed terminal will facilitate the arrival of cheap ferries to Scilly, which has long been a popular domestic holiday location for families and couples.
The council's plans also involve raising the height of the sea wall and building extensions to existing structures.
A toilet block will also be demolished to make way for new security gates and fencing.
The Isles of Scilly are a group of hundreds of islands but just five are inhabited - St Mary's, Tresco, St Martin's, Bryher and St Agnes.
