Pier project complements Liverpool's new ferry terminal | | | | 30 October 2008 | Liverpool's new multi-million pound ferry terminal has moved a step closer to completion, with the official opening of the revitalised Pier Head nearby.
As part of an £8 million rejuvenation of the city's iconic waterfront, the new pier head includes a link onto the Leeds-Liverpool canal, an entertainment stage and some high quality paving and landscaping designed to make the area more attractive to both visitors and locals alike.
However, much of the focus has been on the city's new ferry terminal, which is currently under construction and due to be completed next spring.
The terminal will also be complemented by a new Museum of Liverpool and three granite 'wedge' sculptures, all of which will have the city's famous Three Graces as a stunning backdrop.
Commenting on the ongoing development, Liverpool Council leader Warren Bradley told the city's Daily Echo newspaper: "I think it is fabulous.
"Schemes like this are part of the vision of changing perceptions of Liverpool and we are changing perceptions."
Once the ambitious project is completed, canal boats will be able to enter the centre of Liverpool for the first time in the city's history. |
