Plymouth shopping centre triumphs at loo awards

If you've made reservations on ferries from Plymouth to Roscoff, it might be worth stopping off at one of the area's shopping centres ahead of the journey.

Drake Circus shopping centre has been granted the gold star standard in the 2011 Loo of the Year Awards for the fifth year in a row.

A number of elements were assessed by an inspector, including fixtures and fittings, cleanliness and management, and signage and decor.

Mike Jones, Drake Circus general manager, said: "This is great recognition for Drake Circus and all the personnel who work hard to ensure that our toilet facilities are the best in the region."

Award organisers reveal that standards all over the country are improving every year, with 78 per cent of entrants now receiving the five gold star award in 2011.

This compares to just 72 per cent of toilets receiving the accolade in 2010.
