Safety at the Port of Dover will be further improved, thanks to an extension of an existing Neighbourhood Watch scheme.
PC Martin Dadd and the Port of Dover Police are behind the initiative, which will span from the western end of the Gateway Flats to the Clock Tower and Cambridge Road.
Police and local residents will be involved in making sure the scheme is a success, alongside support from the South East Kent Neighbourhood Watch.
"Reporting anything that will allow the police to act quickly may prevent an offence, result in an arrest or avert anti-social behaviour," commented PC Dadd.
He added that the scheme is helping to create a fantastic partnership between those who live and work along the seafront.
Statistics from the Port of Dover show that in the fourth quarter of 2011, 2,377,185 passengers travelled through the area on ferry crossings.
Of this figure, 475,205 opted to take
ferries to France and other destinations with their cars.
