Portsmouth ferry port has put together a list of tips for people who will be travelling with children this year.
Firstly, choosing to travel by ferry offers a "big advantage", as it removes the hassle of airport queues, check-in and luggage restrictions.
The company that operates the port also recommended playing games to keep younger passengers entertained during the sea crossing, such as seeing who can be the first to see land or spot an animal in the water.
Families taking
ferries from Portsmouth to St Malo, Cherbourg or any other destination in France can keep kids happy by paying a visit to a patisserie to pick up some tasty cakes or pastries.
Other useful tips include bringing some story CDs to provide entertainment during long car journeys and packing swimming gear at the top of a suitcase, to make it easy for kids to jump straight in the pool or sea upon arrival at the destination.
Portsmouth is Britain's best-connected port, with regular ferries to Caen, Le Havre, Santander and other popular destinations.
It is served by
Brittany Ferries,
LD Lines,
Wightlink and other companies.
