Provence "a destination for couples"

Couples taking ferry holidays in France this year should take advantage of the sights and experiences on offer in the Provence region on the country's south coast, according to the local tourist board.

Melody Raynaud, press and marketing officer for Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur, said that the region is "a destination for couples", particularly those who enjoy being active and exploring the outdoors.

She also recommended a visit to Provence for older couples owing to its peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

With regards to specific locations for ferry travellers to visit in Provence, Ms Raynaud said: "We are popular for cities like Avignon and Marseille, and Nice is in the region too."

She added: "Smaller towns like Arles and Aix-en-Provence are near to the sea. Arles is a Roman city, there are a lot of remains from the Roman times and Aix-en-Provence is so close to Marseille, which is said to be the capital of Provence."

Travellers can choose from a number of ferry crossings to France to kick off their Provence journey, including the P&O Ferries service from Dover to Calais, the LD Lines route from Portsmouth to Le Havre and the Brittany Ferries crossing from Poole to Cherbourg.
