Families hoping to cut back on the costs of a holiday by taking ferries to Ireland have been told to ensure they are covered under travel insurance.
While some may think that insurance policies are only needed for trips further afield, Saga has warned that holidaymakers could face unexpected costs if their fellow travellers end up having to go to hospital.
Citing expected increases in rail ticket prices of up to eight per cent in the next year and the rising costs of fuel, the insurer suggested that those wishing to stay close to their loved ones could be expected to pay for extra travel or hotel stays.
Roger Ramsden, chief executive of Saga Services, said: "Many people mistakenly believe that travel insurance provides the same cover whether you're travelling in the UK or abroad, but it's important to check as this is not always the case."
People with an interest in contemporary art could be tempted to take
ferries to Ireland as a new exhibition of photographs by Mary McIntyre opened at the Belfast Exposed photography gallery on September 2nd, running until October 14th.
