Isle of Man ferry breaks will provide some memorable experiences for families this summer following the launch of the island's steam train service.
The tourism department announced that the steam railway from Douglas to Castletown will begin operating on July 29th and will run on every Thursday evening in August.
Journeys will depart from Douglas at 19:20 and return from Castletown at 21:30, offering plenty of time for holidaymakers to explore the narrow streets of the former capital or visit one of its pubs.
Travellers can take
ferries to the Isle of Man with the Steam Packet Company, which sails to Douglas from Liverpool and Heysham.
Community, culture and leisure minister David Cretney said: "A trip on the train to Castletown is a great experience in itself, but to be able to enjoy it during a summer evening where the scenery will be quite beautiful is a special opportunity.
"There promises to be something to do for everyone, ranging from enjoying something to eat or a drink at one of the friendly pubs to visiting Castle Rushen and enjoying some of the entertainment on offer in the castle grounds."
Castle Rushen's opening hours will be extended to 21:15 every Thursday night to coincide with the steam train service.
The
Isle of Man Steam Packet Company also sails to Douglas from Dublin, Belfast and Larne in Ireland.
