France is famous for celebrating every sort of food and drink and next month the town of Roscoff will dedicate an entire festival to the humble pink onion.
The Fete de l'oignon rose will be held in the Brittany port town on August 23rd and 24th.
Roscoff has been growing the pink onion since the 17th century, when it was eaten by sailors to ward off scurvy.
The festival dedicated to the sweet and tasty vegetable will get underway with a market on the Saturday selling onions on strings by the kilo, followed by an onion tart competition.
Saturday evening will include a torchlight procession from Quai Charles de Gaulle to Chapelle Saint-Barbe, while Sunday's events will range from an antique tractor fair to a 100km bike race.
