LD Lines is to begin operating a
Rosslare to Cherbourg ferry service from next month.
The ferry company will start the new route, which will link southern Ireland with France, from September 19th.
Previously, the two regions were connected through a
Rosslare to Le Havre ferry, which was launched in November 2008.
However,
LD Lines said that moving the service to Le Havre would result in shorter crossing times and increased frequency.
"Our ongoing research shows that whilst there is clearly an ever-increasing demand to develop direct Ireland-France ferry links avoiding the UK mainland, freight customers in particular continue to require greater frequency of service and shorter crossings times wherever possible," commented Christophe Santoni, managing director of
LD Lines.
The new route will be operated by the Norman Voyager vessel, which has a capacity of 200 cars, 800 passengers and 120 freight vehicles.
People taking the
Rosslare to Cherbourg ferry service can relax in the 110 cabins or in one of the bars, cafes and restaurants on board.
