When ferry travellers think of the Netherlands, they often think of Amsterdam. But this traditional Dutch city with its cobblestone streets and canals isn't all that the country has to offer.
According to travel writer Agnes Poirier, Rotterdam is also well worth a visit, particularly for those with a passion for architecture and design.
In an article for the Guardian newspaper, she described the city as an "ode to modernism and innovation" that has been reinventing itself ever since it was destroyed by the Luftwaffe in the Second World War.
While there are still a host of "iconic" structures in Rotterdam, such as the De Kunsthal museum and the Erasmus Bridge, the 21st century is very much alive in the city thanks to its "dizzying" steel structures and its "burgeoning" club scene.
Tourists keen to see what Rotterdam has to offer can take direct
ferries from Hull to Rotterdam Europoort, the largest port in Europe, with
P&O Ferries.
