Ferry operator Seafrance has reported a rise in its number of passengers heading to the UK to take advantage of the weak pound.
Seafrance offers cross channel ferries from Calais to Dover, which provide easy access to tourist destinations in south-east England and London.
A spokeswoman for the ferry operator told the Independent that the recent increase in travel to the UK from continental Europe extended beyond the festive season and into January.
"One of the reasons for this is a number of French people coming to Canterbury and other UK locations to take advantage of the British sales and advantageous prices in fuel and other goods," she added.
Seafrance's rising passenger numbers contributed to strong traffic at Dover ferry port at the end of last year, which saw its busiest December in four years.
It is not only ferry operators who have seen demand for their services recently, with Eurostar announcing today (January 13th) that it carried a record 9.1 million passengers in 2008.
