Seafrance customers help marine conservation charity

Seafrance customers help marine conservation charity
Seafrance recently contributed over £300,000 to the Marine Conservation Society's (MCS) Beachwatch project with the help of voluntary donations from passengers.

The Dover to Calais ferry operator said customer contributions to the cause have "far exceeded all expectations" since it became lead sponsor of the project in May 2008.

As well as raising money, Seafrance staff have supported the MCS by taking part in clean-up operations at Kingsdown beach in Kent, collecting more than 150 bags of rubbish.

Robin Wilkins, the ferry company's managing director, said: "We wanted to support an environmental project where both our customers and staff could make a positive and practical contribution to our marine environment.

"I am thrilled at the way our customers have responded so generously to the charity and also how our staff have really taken the environmental issues onboard in a practical way."

Sam Fanshawe, director of the MCS, said the operator's support could be "vital" in helping the charity achieve its goal of halving the amount of litter on UK beaches by 2015.

Seafrance offers up to 15 daily return crossings on the Dover to Calais ferry route, which is also served by P&O Ferries.
