Visitors to Holland may be tempted to pay a visit to the town of Gouda next month as it lights up for its customary Christmas festival.
The Gouda by Candlelight tradition sees the Gothic town hall on Market Square illuminated by candles from December 19th to 28th.
Surrounding buildings are also lit up by Christmas trees and fairy lights, giving the centre of the town a collective festive atmosphere.
People planning Christmas ferry trips to Holland will be able to see this spectacle in Gouda between 17:30 and 23:00 every day.
While it is well known for its festive traditions, this Dutch town is also famous for Gouda cheese, which is still sold at a market every Thursday, providing a popular attraction for tourists.
There are also a number of museums, churches and other historic buildings for visitors to see in Gouda.
DFDS Seaways, P&O Ferries and Stena Line all offer ferry crossings to Holland, sailing to Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Hook of Holland respectively.
