See Katherine Jenkins on Guernsey ferry breaks | | | | 04 February 2010 | Holidaymakers planning to take ferries to Guernsey for a spring getaway this year will have the chance to see opera star Katherine Jenkins in concert.
The singer will give a special performance with the 32-piece National Symphony Orchestra on May 1st as part of the island's Liberation Day celebrations.
People interested in attending the event can travel on one of the three Guernsey ferry routes operated by Condor Ferries from Poole, Portsmouth and Weymouth.
The Liberation Day celebrations will reach their peak on May 9th this year.
A special significance is being added to the occasion in 2010 as it will mark the 70th anniversary of the evacuation of Guernsey during World War II and 65 years since the island's liberation from Nazi occupation.
Various events will be scheduled in St Peter Port and surrounding areas, including a food fair and performances by choirs from across the island.
Jason Moriarty, media relations manager at VisitGuernsey, said: "Liberation Day is a focal point of the Guernsey calendar every year, but the anniversaries make it extra special in 2010."
Travellers can extend their trip by taking ferries to Jersey or heading to France on the St Malo ferry service provided by Condor Ferries from Guernsey.
