The seafront town of Le Touquet will provide some unusual sights for people on France ferry breaks to see this month.
Until August 31st, the destination will present more than 200 sand sculptures on a royal theme.
Travellers can catch ferries to Boulogne with
LD Lines to visit Le Touquet, which is located a short drive along the coast from the French port.
The sand sculptures will offer a unique representation of nearly 1,400 years of French history, from the coronation of Clovis in 481 to the abdication of Louis Philippe I in 1848.
A special type of sand is used to create the sculptures. Rougher and more stable than that found on the beach, the sand allows artists to create sculptures of up to 20 metres in height.
In addition to
LD Lines' Boulogne ferry service, both
Seafrance and P&O Ferries offer crossings on the
Dover to Calais ferry route, which also provides easy access to Le Touquet.
Another cross channel travel option is the Dover to Dunkerque ferry route served by
Norfolkline.
