Services disrupted by ferry shunt

All SpeedFerries sailings from Dover to Boulogne have been suspended after the service's only vessel collided with a pier at the Kent port.

The SpeedOne catamaran had dropped off all passengers from its final sailing, and was being moved into its berthing position when the accident happened.

A spokeswoman said some water got on board, but no crew members were hurt.

A small hole has been repaired, but the vessel must be inspected before it can be allowed to sail again.

Crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Hoverport at Dover's Western Docks just after 2000 GMT on Friday.

Awaiting inspection, The SpeedFerries spokeswoman said: "She'd done her last crossing and everyone had disembarked.

"She was just moving across [the harbour] to berth up for the night, and she scratched along the side of the Prince of Wales Pier.

"Some water was taken on board but it was dealt with by our own engineers.

"There was a small puncture hole on the left-hand side which has already been repaired.

"We're now awaiting the authorities to inspect her before she can be operational again."

The spokeswoman advised any travellers booked onto SpeedOne on Saturday to check for updates.

She added that the cause of the accident would be investigated.
