Skiers 'should consider Tignes in November' | | | | 27 October 2008 | People planning self-drive ski holidays to France this winter should consider the option of visiting Tignes as early as November, according to a travel writer.
Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Nick Trend points out that there has been skiing on Tignes' Grand Motte glacier since September 29th.
The rest of the resort is situated at such an altitude that the main ski area usually opens in late November, although people booking ski holidays are advised to wait until the middle of the month before booking to ensure good conditions.
Visitors should also be able to find accommodation at that time of the year with lower than average room rates.
Tignes is one of the most popular destinations for ski holidays in France, with plenty of facilities for regular skiers as well as provisions for people who are interested in other activities, such as pedestrian tours of the Grande Motte glacier.
People planning self-drive ski holidays to France can catch ferries from Dover to Calais, or any other port in the north of the country, and follow roads to the south-east. |
