Skiers urged to get tailored insurance | | | | 11 November 2008 | People planning skiing holidays in France or any other destination have been advised to take out an insurance policy that provides exactly the sort of cover they will need for their trip.
Kelly Ostler-Coyle, a spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers, pointed out that the risk of sustaining injury on ski holidays combined with the occasionally high cost of medical care at resorts makes tailored insurance very important.
She also pointed out that travellers could be carrying expensive equipment, such as skis and quality winter clothing, which they will want to cover against loss, damage or theft.
"Essentially, the main thing if you are going on skiing holidays is to make sure you're covered for what you want," the ABI spokesperson advised.
"So it might be that you may need to take out specialist winter sports cover rather than just a bog standard travel insurance policy."
According to a recent survey by insurance provider esure, the credit crunch is having an affect on people's willingness to purchase cover for ski holidays. Nearly a fifth of the poll respondents said they would consider travelling uninsured to save money. |
