Taking ferries to Spain could prove a popular option for Brits this year, with the country becoming more affordable than in 2009.
According to research by Post Office Travel Money, the cost of staple holiday items such as meals and drinks in the European country has fallen by 30 per cent from last year.
While Spain was found to be the cheapest destination in the eurozone, all countries in the region are expected to be more affordable for Brits this year, suggesting ferries to France, Belgium and the Netherlands could also prove popular.
Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Money, said: "The eurozone looks to be striking back after the battering its resorts took in 2009, when Post Office euro sales were down over 14 per cent."
She added: "The Post Office Worldwide Holidays Costs Barometer research has revealed an underlying reduction in eurozone prices and, when you add the improved exchange rate to this, the outlook looks relatively sunny for UK holidaymakers."
