DFDS Seaways has revealed that it experienced "steady growth" on its Harwich to Esbjerg ferry route last year while the majority of the UK travel industry was struggling in the recession.
Passenger volumes on the service reached 93,000, representing an increase of nine per cent from the previous year.
The ferry company said that the link between Harwich in the UK and Esbjerg in Denmark has become particularly important for tourism in England's East Anglia region.
John Crummie, managing director of
DFDS Seaways, said: "The stronger euro has meant that England has become better value for money, and we have certainly seen a rise in the short break business from Scandinavia."
He added: "The route not only brings tourists into the immediate area, but opens up the whole of the south-east and England to tourists."
The number of customers travelling on outbound ferries to Esbjerg from Harwich increased by six per cent last year.
DFDS Seaways also revealed recently that 2009 was a record year for its Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry route, with approximately 531,000 passengers using the service.
