Stena Line announces huge investments on the North Sea
Stena Line, Europe's largest ferry operator, has announced an investment on its Harwich to Hoek van Holland route of approx. 100 million euro, equaling £ 70 million.
The investment will be used to increase capacity on its two Superferries, the Stena Hollandica and the Stena Britannica. Both ships will be lengthened to 240 metres making them the largest RoPax vessels in the world. The investment is Stena Line's largest investment ever in rebuilding ships.
"Our North Sea Operations are of huge strategic importance to us and we believe that this investment is vital to our ability to meet customer demand on this route" said Gunnar Blomdahl, CEO of Stena Line. "This investment will enable Stena Line to cater for the right capacity of both passenger and freight traffic."
"We can also confirm that our fast ferry service will continue until 2007. It is business as usual and our customers should be rest assured that they will continue to experience the timely and efficient service that they expect from us when travelling between Harwich and Hoek van Holland in the future", said Pim de Lange, Area Director North Sea, Stena Line.
In addition to the investment in the two Superferries, Stena Line has also invested in two new ships that will start operating on the Killingholme-Hoek van Holland freight route, as announced earlier. The new ships will offer better sailing schedules for freight customers and a substantial increase in capacity.
"Stena Line remains fully committed to its North Sea operations and we will be making a total investment of approx 300 million euro equaling £200 million to implement these changes to the routes," concludes Gunnar Blomdahl.
