Stena Line has launched a new information pack which it claims is the "definitive" guide to travelling with pets.
The step-by-step video guide focuses on the legal and practical issues related to taking pets on the company's ferries to Holland.
Stena Line decided to create the guide following a 13 per cent year-on-year increase in the number of people travelling with animals on the operator's Harwich to Hook of Holland ferry route.
The British government set up a pet travel scheme in 2000 to allow animals - specifically dogs, cats and ferrets - to be taken abroad and return to the UK without having to be quarantined.
Lars Olsson,
Stena Line's commercial manager for North Sea travel, said: "Having noted the increasing importance to our passengers of bringing their pets,
Stena Line recognised the need for a simple guide which visually sets out the official governmental and logistical requirements of taking a pet dog or cat abroad."
In addition to its Hook of Holland ferry route,
Stena Line provides ferries to Dublin and Dun Laoghaire from Holyhead and to Rosslare from Fishguard.
People planning to visit Northern Ireland can sail to Larne from Fleetwood or catch ferries to Belfast from Stranraer.
