Recent disruption in the aviation industry has created a noticeable change in the way people plan their holidays, according to
Stena Line.
The company said that many consumers who turned to ferry travel as an alternative to flying during the recent volcanic ash crisis were pleasantly surprised by how easy and enjoyable their journey turned out to be.
Ian Baillie, marketing manager at Stena Line, said the "vast majority" of passengers recognised the added convenience of travelling by sea and welcomed the increased freedom and flexibility with regards to baggage and checking in.
He added: "From a business perspective our job will be to provide those many thousands of new customers with more and more reasons to travel with Stena Line again in the future.
"Already we are seeing a definite shift in holiday planning as more families seek the relative certainty provided by ferry travel compared to flying, especially as this pattern of disruption looks set to continue."
Stena Line also revealed that it is anticipating a record summer on its Irish Sea routes.
The company provides
ferries from Holyhead to Dublin and Dun Laoghaire, as well as a Fishguard to Rosslare ferry route.
Irish Ferries,
Norfolkline and
P&O Ferries also offer a choice of Irish Sea crossings.
