Stena Line passengers will reportedly benefit from a 'cruise ferry' experience when the operator introduces a new ship to its Stranraer to Belfast ferry link.
The company confirmed that the Stena Navigator will be deployed on the route in early November, providing the capacity to carry up to 1,500 passengers and 280 cars.
People taking ferries to Belfast from Stranraer will be offered a "new travelling experience", according to
Stena Line, with amenities including more extensive passenger areas, free wireless internet access and complimentary movies.
Paul Grant, manager of the Stranraer to Belfast ferry route, said: "The introduction of the Stena Navigator will give us the opportunity to provide our customers with an increased number of travel and timetable options.
"The additional capacity on the route will also enable us to expand in time for what we hope will be a more buoyant 2010."
Over the past ten years,
Stena Line has invested over £100 million in the route linking Belfast and Stranraer.
The company recently made an application to establish a new terminal to the north of Cairnryan ferry port in Scotland.
