Stena Line is introducing a new tagging system for football fans travelling on its Belfast to Stranraer route.
The new system of giving supporters coloured lanyards to wear is to improve the safety and comfort of the service, reports BBC News.
Following incidents during last year's football season involving Celtic and Rangers fans, passengers will be issued a coloured tag which does not identify their football team, but simply that they are part of an organised group.
At least that is the understanding of Glasgow Rangers fan Sam Morton, who told the BBC that if fans do start to cause trouble, "they can be pointed out and easily identified as being part of an organised group".
Earlier this year, Stena Line launched a revamped HSS Stena Voyager for the Belfast to Stranraer route following a £2 million refit.
The mayor of Belfast, Councillor Jim Rodgers, commented that the investment showed the company's dedication to the Irish tourism industry.
