People planning to take a holiday during the peak summer months can save money if they take time to compare ferry fares, a travel writer has advised.
Writing in the Telegraph, Sophie Butler listed comparing ferry prices as one of the top ways of keeping costs down during a summer getaway.
She identified
Norfolkline, which offers
ferries from Dover to Dunkerque, as one of the "cheapest, no-frills operators".
Summer travellers were also pointed towards
LD Lines, which provides regular
ferries from Portsmouth to Le Havre and Dover to Boulogne.
The company also serves the Ramsgate to Ostend ferry route with
TransEuropa Ferries.
For those who are planning to stay in the UK this summer, Ms Butler recommended booking accommodation on the outskirts of expensive areas.
She offered the example of Penrith near the Lake District, which can be much more affordable than Windermere, which is located in the heart of the popular holiday region.
Another way to save money is to be flexible with holiday dates and be willing to travel at off-peak times.
