A new survey has highlighted one of the main benefits of ferry travel over flying, with nearly a third (29 per cent) of airline passengers reportedly experiencing baggage problems in the last five years.
The research by insurance provider LV= found that, of the high number of travellers whose bags were lost, damaged or delayed during their flight, only a quarter received compensation from their carrier.
Of the airlines included in the study, British Airways was found to be the worst for baggage handling, with nearly one in four passengers reporting a problem relating to their luggage.
People who decide to travel by ferry this year will have peace of mind knowing that all of their bags can be stored safely in their own car and will not incur any additional charges.
Commenting on the results of the survey, John O'Roarke, managing director of LV= travel insurance, said: "The fact that a third of all travellers have had their baggage lost or damaged in the last five years is surprisingly high and should come as a warning to holidaymakers."
The advantages of ferry travel were also highlighted during the recent volcanic ash disruption, during which
P&O Ferries,
Stena Line,
Irish Ferries and other companies experienced high demand for their services.
