Travellers planning to take ferries to Amsterdam this year will have the opportunity to experience Dutch culture and traditions, according to the country's tourism agency.
Sandra Ishmael of the Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions encouraged visitors to venture out of the capital city to see some of the locations that surround it.
Travellers who take
ferries from Newcastle to Amsterdam with
DFDS Seaways will have the added flexibility of being able to explore the area in their own car.
"Towns and villages surrounding Amsterdam
such as Edam, Almere and Zaanstad are rich in Dutch tradition and typical Dutch landscapes," Ms Ishmael said.
She encouraged visitors to see some of the windmills and castles that are found in the area, as well as the tulips that bloom in late spring.
The spokeswoman also highlighted a number of "must sees and dos" in Amsterdam city centre, such as the Van Gogh Museum, a canal boat tour and a visit to the Jordaan district.
People planning a trip to The Netherlands this year also have the option of taking
ferries from Harwich to Hook of Holland with
Stena Line, while
P&O Ferries offers a Hull to Rotterdam ferry service.
