Ferries to Amsterdam could prove popular among art lovers this year, with the city's Rijksmuseum currently hosting an exhibition of prints and drawings of tulips from the 17th and 18th centuries.
The Tulips in Amsterdam display was launched on March 2nd and is due to run until June 1st.
People travelling from the UK are offered direct access to the Dutch capital via
DFDS Seaways' Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry route, which operates on a daily basis.
The Rijksmuseum exhibition features depictions of tulips in isolation, in bouquets, within the garden environment and in allegorical scenes.
One of the highlights of the show is a tulip book created by Jacob Marrel between 1637 and 1639, an extremely rare item that is seldom shown in public.
The museum has also confirmed that it will be launching a joint promotion with the Keukenhof flower garden from March 18th this year, enabling visitors to buy a single ticket for admission to both attractions.
People planning a trip to The Netherlands this year can also take
ferries from Harwich to Hook of Holland with
Stena Line, while P&O Ferries offers a Hull to Rotterdam ferry service.
