Families planning a memorable summer holiday this year have been advised to catch ferries to France and take advantage of the many travel opportunities that the country offers.
The Guardian recommended travelling on
Brittany Ferries' Plymouth to Roscoff or Portsmouth to St Malo ferry routes to visit Les Terrasses de Pentrez-Plage, a new holiday village overlooking the bay of Douarnenez.
Children will find plenty to interest them in the area, which is home to sandy beaches, shallow waters and rock pools.
Those who would prefer a holiday with a rural feel could consider Normandy. The Guardian gave its seal of approval to the southern part of the province, which offers plenty of woodland, fields and nature reserves for families to explore.
LD Lines operates a Portsmouth to Le Havre ferry service which is ideal for people planning to visit Normandy, while
Brittany Ferries sails from Portsmouth to Caen.
Other family holiday options suggested by the newspaper include literary holidays in Menorca, Spain and a watersports break in Corsica, France.
