Taking a summer holiday is 'non-negotiable' | | | | 08 August 2008 | Holidaymakers are refusing to fully give in to the credit crunch, with one expert claiming that trips abroad are one luxury Brits feel are 'non-negotiable'.
Tom Hall, travel editor of Lonely Planet, has insisted that people are continuing to book holidays and added that savvy travellers could still bag cheap deals.
Catching a ferry rather than travelling by air can be one way to save money and can also prove a more exciting experience for youngsters.
Mr Hall said that another way to make your money go further is to travel somewhere outside of the euro-zone.
"There are signs that the late bookings market is strong," he added.
"I think people see holidays as a non-negotiable thing
The question is whether they are going to cut back on those additional trips, in addition to your main holiday, are you going to cut back on one of your short breaks?...That's a question that we don't really know the answer to at the moment." |
