Cross channel ferry trips to England could prove a popular option this year following the release of the film The Young Victoria, which is expected to boost interest in the country's historic destinations.
Enjoy England, the domestic arm of tourism agency VisitBritain, has teamed up with Momentum Pictures to promote the destinations featured in the film.
It has also set up a dedicated webpage to showcase sites such as Wilton House in Wiltshire, Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire and Lancaster House in London.
Amanda Smyth, head of marketing for Enjoy England, said: "We love historic adaptations on TV and film - just look at the TV schedules - and tourist boards know they can be a wonderful advert for attractions and destinations around the country.
"I think when people see The Young Victoria, they will get a real taste of some of our treasured historic houses and be inspired to visit at the weekend, or for Mother's Day perhaps."
European holidaymakers can visit England by catching cross channel ferries from Calais to Dover or from the ports of Le Havre and St Malo to Portsmouth.
There are also ferry crossings linking Rotterdam to Harwich and Zeebrugge to Hull.
