Those travelling to Spain who take planes instead of services such as
ferries from Portsmouth to Santander could find their eardrums suffer for it.
A survey by online casino RoxyPalace.com found being sat near a screaming baby or toddler was the worst irritation suffered by passengers while in the air.
This was listed by 35 per cent of respondents, with second place on 23 per cent being squashed in next to a fat person.
Other prominent issues included body odour and other smells, noise and drunkenness and cramped aeroplane toilets.
Those catching ferries can avoid all this as they are free to roam, enjoying plenty of space and able to escape from annoyances around them.
Many Britons have been getting away from the UK during the Olympics, either due to disliking sport or seeking to escape the London crowds.
Research by Abta - The Travel Association recently showed 19 per cent of Britons were planning to take a break during this time, although nearly six out of ten have a holiday at this time of year anyway as the school year is over.
