The Times newspaper has offered a list of the top ten Alpine destinations for people considering a short ski holiday.
Weekend skiing trips are now an easily achievable option, according to the newspaper, and Meribel is listed as one of the best locations in France's Trois Vallees region for a quick getaway.
One of the big advantages of Meribel is the presence of an altiport, which enables a "plane hop" from Geneva that can reportedly be cheaper than a taxi.
Another popular resort for people taking ski holidays in France is Val d'Isere, which, according to the Times, has "some of the best skiing in the world on its doorstep".
In Val d'Isere, visitors can pick up L'Espace Killy ski passes, which can also be used in Tignes, a resort that is slightly more snowboard-friendly.
Another famous Alpine skiing destination is Chamonix, a resort that the Times describes as "a bit of a push" for a weekend visit but "non-negotiable for a die-hard ski fanatic".
According to the newspaper, skiing in Chamonix is "out of this world" and the best mountain in the region is Grands Montets.
