Transmanche Ferries took delivery of its first new-build yesterday for operation on the Dieppe Newhaven route. The 142-m Côte d'Albatre was built in Spain by Barreras; it can accommodate 600 passengers and has 1,270 lane metres for rolling cargo.
The vessel and its sister ship, Seven Sisters, will replace the chartered Sardinia Vera which will be returned to its owner
Corsica Ferries.
Contrary to earlier reports, the ro-pax Dieppe will remain in the Transmanche fleet. The 22-kt newbuildings will cut the passage time between the French and English ports by 40 minutes.
Sources in France told Fairplay that
Transmanche Ferries is in talks with Louis Dreyfus' LD Lines about a possible co-operation on the Dieppe-Newhaven and Le Havre-Portsmouth routes. The talks could prompt a reorganisation of the operators' fleets.
