As the UK enters a fourth day of flight cancellations due to the airspace restrictions ferry operators again experienced a surge in passenger numbers and website enquires yesterday (Saturday 18th). P&O ferry crossings between Bilbao and Portsmouth are now fully booked until Wednesday, as are today's services from Rotterdam and Zeebrugge to Hull. P&O also have very limited space for foot passengers on their Dover-Calais ferry service, although LD Lines, SeaFrance and Brittany Ferries cross-channel ferries still have space as travellers continue to head to northern France's ports to find transport. Stena Line and Irish Ferries also have seen huge increases in passenger numbers and expect this to continue today.
NATS (the National Air Traffic Control Services) extended the restrictions on flights into and out of the UK until 01:00 BST Monday morning, and British Airways, Thomson, Ryanair, BMI and Virgin have already cancelled the majority of their flights until Monday daytime. The disruption that has blighted the UK travel since Thursday has also affected much of Europe over the past couple of days, leading to increased train and ferry ticket sales across the continent.
