Families planning to take ferries to France this year should consider paying a visit to the Vendee region on the west coast, according to an expert.
Carolyn Boyd, editor of FRANCE Magazine, said there has been something of a resurgence in the traditional family break in the country recently.
Last year, France proved a popular option among travellers who did not want to take their chances with the weather in the UK.
"Many did not want to risk the poor weather for a second year and so visited areas such as the Vendee [on the west] coast," Ms Boyd said.
"This is an ideal destination for families as it is just a four-hour drive from ferry ports on the north-west coast and it provides gorgeous beaches and great weather."
The FRANCE Magazine editor also highlighted a trend of holidaymakers revisiting the ideas of their parents, who would "pile everyone into the car, take the ferry and end up on a French campsite".
People planning to visit the country this year can take ferries to St Malo, Caen or Cherbourg with
Brittany Ferries or use the
Dover to Calais ferry route, which is served by P&O Ferries and
Seafrance.
