Victorian festival comes to Portsmouth |  | | | 25 November 2008 | Passengers planning ferry trips to or from Portsmouth on the last weekend of November will be able to visit a Victorian Christmas festival being held at the city's historic dockyard.
Scheduled to take place from November 28th to 30th, the festival will see a number of events and activities centred around the historic ships based at the dockyard.
Hundreds of Victorian characters and personalities will provide entertainment at the festival, including such recognisable figures as Ebenezer Scrooge, Oliver Twist, Queen Victoria and the Snow Queen.
Visitors will also be able to mingle with shoe-shiners, rag-and-bone men, street vendors and even a mad professor.
There will be a number of displays and activities for the public to enjoy and take part in, including a demonstration of life in a Victorian schoolroom and a Christmas grotto for children to visit onboard HMS Warrior 1860.
Portsmouth hosts ferry services from a number of operators, such as Brittany Ferries, LD Lines and Wightlink, which sail to destinations including St Malo, Le Havre and Fishbourne. |
