Visit northern France this remembrance day

Visit northern France this remembrance day
With Armistice Day approaching, those wanting to commemorate the important occasion can visit northern France where a number of remembrance services will be taking place.

Each year, millions of people across Europe mark November 11th with a two minute silence and many choose to do this on the sites of former battlefields.

Those who wish to join in one of the numerous ceremonies in northern France and Flanders can head to the Menin Gate in Ypres where a service will take place.

The gate is covered in the names of 55,000 allied soldiers who have no marked graves and is a moving site to visitors.

In the nearby town is the In Flanders Field Museum which will be of interest to history enthusiasts and those looking to learn more about the war.

Crest Farm Canadian Memorial in Passchendaele will also hold a remembrance ceremony which will be followed by a torchlight procession to the market place.

British people wishing to travel to northern France this November can easily access it by ferry with numerous operators offering cheap deals this winter.
