Holidaymakers might be tempted to catch ferries to France in the future to visit Paris after hearing that the city was voted Europe's second most popular travel hotspot.
Global market research firm OnePoll surveyed 10,000 European travellers to find the continent's leading destinations.
Paris, which welcomes 45 million tourists every year, won votes for its famous attractions such as the Eiffel Tower.
A spokesperson for OnePoll said: "Globe-trotters still see Paris as the 'romance capital', which helped it secure second spot."
Travellers interested in visiting the city can use the
Dover to Calais ferry route, which is served by
Seafrance and P&O Ferries, or take ferries to Le Havre from Portsmouth with
LD Lines and drive south.
The overall winner in the search to find Europe's top holiday hotspot was Barcelona, which won votes for its "beautiful parks, beaches and Catalonian architecture".
Holidaymakers can visit the city by taking ferries to Bilbao or Santander, which are provided by P&O Ferries and
Brittany Ferries respectively, and driving east towards the Costa Brava region of Spain.
The OnePoll research found that the Lake District is considered the top destination for outdoor activities and walking, while Edinburgh is the most popular city for sightseeing.
