Travellers taking ferries to the Isle of Wight this year will have the opportunity to visit some of the island's top beaches.
Keep Britain Tidy recently announced that the island is one of England's leading destinations in terms of the quality and cleanliness of its beaches, receiving three Blue Flags and 11 Quality Coast Awards this year.
Its 14 accolades place the Isle of Wight joint first in Keep Britain Tidy's 'roll of honour' for 2010 along with Torbay in Devon.
People planning to visit the destination this year can take
ferries from Portsmouth to Fishbourne or Ryde with
Wightlink, which also offers a Lymington to Yarmouth ferry service.
Keep Britain Tidy revealed that a total of 150 beaches across England have been recognised for their quality this year, with 32 of these receiving both the Blue Flag and Quality Coast Award.
Phil Barton, chief executive of the campaign group, said: "As more and more people decide to swap trips abroad for the convenience of holidays at home, they are discovering a renewed love for our glorious coastline and quality resorts.
"Our beaches are fabulous places to visit and that's official. Seventy-one Blue Flag and 111 Quality Coast Awards proves our beach managers continue to work hard to provide clean and safe beaches for everyone to enjoy."
