When it comes to booking a holiday and taking a break from the rat race, it can be tempting to simply go with what you know.
For example, if you typically enjoy a week or two of lounging on sunny beaches you might stick with that, while city break enthusiasts could be likely to make reservations in similar hotels to those in which they have stayed in previous years.
However, taking the time to do a little research and try something different could mean even more fun during those precious days of annual leave.
For example, people taking
ferries from Portsmouth to Santander could see much more of Spain if they combine a beach break with a city break - it should turn into effectively two holidays for the price of one.
Enrique Ruiz de Lera, director of the Spanish Tourist Office UK, said Spain is a destination that is great no matter what time of year you go, but summer and the country's good weather conditions are likely to be a draw for most British tourists.
He suggested spending a few days soaking up some rays on a sandy beach before heading into some of the country's cities and towns to enjoy a little culture.
"Our message would be go to the beach, enjoy the Spanish sunshine, but why not also go into the mountains for a day or visit a museum?" Mr de Lera commented.
The expert explained that he is keen for holidaymakers to see Spain as much more than just somewhere to go for a beach break.
"It's all about inducing dynamism to our visitors in order for them to discover and enjoy all the wide range of products that Spain offers," he added.
When holidaying in or around the city of Santander in Spain, attractions to add to a to-do list could include the Magdalena Palace, the planetarium, the Prehistoric and Archaeological Museum of Cantabria and the Catedral de Santa Maria de la Asuncion.
